HOUSE WINGERD

HOUSE WINGERD: Terraced Elegance

Perched gracefully on the precipice of Table Mountain, overlooking a picturesque vineyard, this high-end residential masterpiece seamlessly marries architectural ingenuity with the natural beauty of its surroundings. Conceived as a haven for a family with children of varying ages, this exceptional home is a testament to the harmonious blending of lifestyle and landscape. The design focuses on the creation of terraced living spaces that not only maximize the use of the steep slope but also cater to the diverse activities and needs of each family member.

Design Concept:

The overarching design concept for this residence is "Terraced Elegance." It seeks to balance the integration of contemporary luxury with the preservation of the site's natural beauty. The house is envisioned as a series of terraces, each tailored to specific activities and age groups, ensuring both privacy and connectivity for the family members.

Site Integration:

Nestled into the slope, the residence takes full advantage of its location. From the street, it appears as a single-story structure, allowing for a discreet and unobtrusive presence within the landscape. However, as one descends through the terraces, the breathtaking views of the vineyard and Table Mountain unfold.

Cascading Terraces:

  1. Entry Terrace: The journey begins with a welcoming entry terrace that features a lush, drought-resistant garden. This space offers an initial introduction to the stunning views and sets the tone for the rest of the home.
  2. Family Terraces: The heart of the home comprises a series of interconnected family terraces, each designed with a specific purpose. The upper terrace caters to the younger children with a playground, while the middle terrace houses a lap pool and outdoor kitchen for the parents. The lower terrace is reserved for the older children and serves as a flexible recreation space.
  3. Master Retreat: The master bedroom suite, discreetly positioned on its own terrace, boasts panoramic views of the vineyard. It features a private spa, study, and expansive walk-in closets, providing a retreat for the homeowners.
  4. Guest Pavilion: A separate guest pavilion, nestled into the hillside, ensures privacy for visiting friends and family. Its terraced layout offers each guest a unique view of the surrounding landscape.

Materials and Sustainability:

The choice of materials for this residence reflects a commitment to both luxury and sustainability. Locally sourced stone and timber blend seamlessly with the natural environment. Sustainable technologies such as solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and a passive ventilation system reduce the home's ecological footprint.

This high-end residential home on the edge of Table Mountain, overlooking a vineyard, is a triumph of architectural vision and environmental sensitivity. The terraced design, tailored to the needs of a multi-generational family, harmonizes with the steep slope and creates a stunning interplay of indoor and outdoor living spaces. It is not merely a house but a reflection of a lifestyle—a testament to the potential for beauty and functionality when architecture meets nature with sensitivity and purpose.
